I suppose that medical care for senior citizens should not be free. I'd like to explain my opinion from the two perspectives. One of the perspectives is how the society has changed regarding this issue, and another is what is a possible counterargument against my opinion.

Firstly, the society has changed largely. The past common sense and experience are not always applicable to the modern society. We need to change our way of thinking as the society changes.

The demographic structure has been aging in Japan where the working population are decreasing and senior citizens are increasing. As a result, the tax burden for workers has been increasing to support the aging society and it may not be possible to maintain the social welfare system.

Secondly, this topic is controversial and I think everyone never agrees on a single opinion. Everyone has each position and experience. It is better to consider opinion from different viewpoints before concluding than to ignore it.

Some say the burden of medical expense for elderly people makes their life hard. However, if the tax was raised to provide free medical care, the consumer demand would reduce and the Japanese economy would remain at a low growth level. Therefore, the government should encourage employment of the elderly people, and it would organize a stable society where the senior citizens also support themselves.

In conclusion, I believe that medical care for senior citizens should not be free. In addition to that, it may be a good idea to make some kind of consensus in the society about this issue in order to make the society better. Thank you.
