まず初めに、社会は大きく変わってきています。過去の常識や経験が常に現代社会に適用できるとは限りません。社会の変化に応じて、私たちは考え方を変える必要があります。

I suppose that economic development cannot be achieved without damage to the environment. I'd like to explain my opinion from the two perspectives. One of the perspectives is how the society has changed regarding this issue, and another is what is a possible counterargument against my opinion.

Firstly, the society has changed largely. The past common sense and experience are not always applicable to the modern society. We need to change our way of thinking as the society changes.

The economic development has greatly improved our standard of living after the Second World War. But, on the other hand, this remarkable progress caused the destruction of environment. Vehicles and industries emit a lot of carbon dioxide into the air while we enjoy the high standard of living and convenience.

Secondly, this topic is controversial and I think everyone never agrees on a single opinion. Everyone has each position and experience. It is better to consider opinion from different viewpoints before concluding than to ignore it.

Some people have seriously started to think about environment, and rules and guidelines have actually been set to conserve environment in recent years. However, as industries in developing countries are generally less efficient than in developed countries, the countries suffered from serious environmental problems. The countries should work together internationally more to conserve environment in the future.

In conclusion, I believe that economic development cannot be achieved without damage to the environment. In addition to that, it may be a good idea to make some kind of consensus in the society about this issue in order to make the society better. Thank you.
