I suppose that the testing of unborn babies for genetic diseases is a good idea. I'd like to explain my opinion from the two perspectives. One of the perspectives is how the society has changed regarding this issue, and another is what is a possible counterargument against my opinion.

Firstly, the society has changed largely. The past common sense and experience are not always applicable to the modern society. We need to change our way of thinking as the society changes.

In recent years, prenatal diagnosis has become common due to the progress in medicine and increase in late child‐bearing. As genetic diseases can be found earlier with prenatal diagnosis, it is possible to choose the most suitable hospital for the child and determine the best time and way of childbirth.

Secondly, this topic is controversial and I think everyone never agrees on a single opinion. Everyone has each position and experience. It is better to consider opinion from different viewpoints before concluding than to ignore it.

Some say that prenatal diagnosis could lead to select lives. However, in some cases, it is necessary to operate on the children with serious diseases such as congenital heart diseases just after their birth. If genetic diseases can be detected in advance, the pregnant women can choose the hospitals for the delivery which specializes in the diseases.

In conclusion, I believe that the testing of unborn babies for genetic diseases is a good idea. In addition to that, it may be a good idea to make some kind of consensus in the society about this issue in order to make the society better. Thank you.
