I suppose that the arts are a good way to promote international understanding. I'd like to explain my opinion from the two perspectives. One of the perspectives is how the society has changed regarding this issue, and another is what is a possible counterargument against my opinion.

Firstly, the society has changed largely. The past common sense and experience are not always applicable to the modern society. We need to change our way of thinking as the society changes.

Today, many people in the world love Japanese comics which are translated into their languages, and on the contrary, a wide variety of foreign movies and dramas are introduced to Japan. As a result, the people have the great chance to be interested in histories, cultures, and life styles of other countries.

Secondly, this topic is controversial and I think everyone never agrees on a single opinion. Everyone has each position and experience. It is better to consider opinion from different viewpoints before concluding than to ignore it.

It is true that some say the arts are just for entertainment. However, I think that the arts also have great potential for gaining attention from foreigners. When we want to be understood, firstly we have to be interested in. From the point of view, we can say that the arts can be the first step to promote international understanding.

In conclusion, I believe that the arts are a good way to promote international understanding. In addition to that, it may be a good idea to make some kind of consensus in the society about this issue in order to make the society better. Thank you.
