私は「死刑制度は正当化されない」と思います。私の意見を2つの観点から説明したいと思います。その観点の一つは「この問題に対して社会がどう変わってきたか」、もう一つは「私の意見に対する想定される反論は何か」です。

まず初めに、社会は大きく変わってきています。過去の常識や経験が常に現代社会に適用できるとは限りません。社会の変化に応じて、私たちは考え方を変える必要があります。

かつては死刑は凶悪犯罪の抑止力となっていました。しかしながら、現代においては死刑の執行は殺人や無差別殺人などの犯罪の抑止力になっておらず、世界では依然凶悪な犯罪は起きています。

次に、この問題は賛否両論あるものであり、全ての人が同じ意見に同意することはないと思います。それぞれの人にはそれぞれの立場や経験があります。異なる視点からの意見を無視するのではなく、それを踏まえて結論を出すことは大切なことです。

被害者遺族の気持ちを思えば、死刑執行は正当であるという意見もあります。しかしながら冤罪であったときには、たくさんの議論すべき倫理的な問題も残されています。さらに、死刑になれば罪を悔いることがなくなるかもしれないと考えれば、死刑は犯罪そのものの根本的な解決にはなりえないと言えるでしょう。

結論として、私は「死刑制度は正当化されない」と確信しております。 加えて、社会をより良くするためには、この問題に関して社会で何らかの合意を形成することは良い考えかもしれません。以上です。

I suppose that the use of capital punishment can not be justified. I'd like to explain my opinion from the two perspectives. One of the perspectives is how the society has changed regarding this issue, and another is what is a possible counterargument against my opinion.

Firstly, the society has changed largely. The past common sense and experience are not always applicable to the modern society. We need to change our way of thinking as the society changes.

In the old days, capital punishment used to be effective in deterring serious crimes strongly. However, serious crimes such as murder are still committed although the criminals know they may be executed. That means capital punishment is not a perfect deterrent to crime.

Secondly, this topic is controversial and I think everyone never agrees on a single opinion. Everyone has each position and experience. It is better to consider opinion from different viewpoints before concluding than to ignore it.

Some say that when we think about bereaved families, the use of capital punishment should be justified. However, false accusation causes many ethical problems which need to be discussed. Furthermore, the use of capital punishment cannot be fundamental solution to crime, because criminals under sentence of death may not repent of their sins.

In conclusion, I believe that the use of capital punishment can not be justified. In addition to that, it may be a good idea to make some kind of consensus in the society about this issue in order to make the society better. Thank you.
