I suppose that Japan is not doing enough to ensure its energy security. I'd like to explain my opinion from the two perspectives. One of the perspectives is how the society has changed regarding this issue, and another is what is a possible counterargument against my opinion.

Firstly, the society has changed largely. The past common sense and experience are not always applicable to the modern society. We need to change our way of thinking as the society changes.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake revealed that nuclear power plants were not perfectly safe, Japan's energy policies for achieving stable supply has been focused. There are little natural resources in Japan, which heavily relies on import for its demand for energy. There are concerns over the depletion of resources and energy for the future due to changes in the global economic status.

Secondly, this topic is controversial and I think everyone never agrees on a single opinion. Everyone has each position and experience. It is better to consider opinion from different viewpoints before concluding than to ignore it.

Some say that renewable energy is developing greatly, and measures for energy is sufficient. However, high maintenance cost and low productivity make it difficult to introduce renewable energy. The government should take feasible measures to supply the stable energy domestically.

In conclusion, I believe that Japan is not doing enough to ensure its energy security. In addition to that, it may be a good idea to make some kind of consensus in the society about this issue in order to make the society better. Thank you.
